What is the view from their window?
This is what I wonder each time I walk by a house near a lake or the seashore. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Are you a ‘lake’ or a ‘sea’ person?
Alhambra de Granada in Spain is a place on earth that I find absolutely fascinating. It was designed around water in every states of matter.
In Finland, water is everywhere to a degree that I have never imagined before I lived there.
Over the past two years I have worked on a series of waterscapes ; whether I was by the sea, a lake or a swamp. Here is a selection for you.
1. If you are a lake person
Recently I had the chance to visit the same place over and over again. A house by a lake.
The reality of this piece is that I was fascinated by the water of the lake. You know when you look from the window or from the porch of the mokki…It was blue violet. Water has texture, freshness, sound. It was just perfect… I worked around this triangle of blue with a pinch of violet you see in the upper left of the painting. That triangle shaped my work. I was visiting the visual world.
2. If you are a sea person
Walk by the shore. Follow your feet, let your mind wander. (hint: weather doesn’t matter or I should say ‘do this during a grey day’)
You will eventually enter a zone where you don’t name things anymore but you feel the space. This is when you can start seeing the green water in comparison to a slightly pink sky. Maybe the trees on the coast will appear to you yellow… It is so subtle that your eyes don’t see it. The analytical eye doesn’t see it but another area of the brain recognizes it. It is a matter of accepting the idea that things aren’t that grey in fact…
3. What if you are an island person 😁!
5. None of the above, you are a swamp person 😉
Swamps feels to me like sharks or bats. Misunderstood.
